| Breed Overview Information : | The New Guinea Singing Dog or NGSD originated in the island of New Guinea. It is a very rare breed that is difficult to obtain. However, they are kept in some zoos and fanciers. The New Guinea Singing Dog was called as such due to its howl which has a musical feel to it which is incomparable to that of other dog breeds. It has a fox-like appearance and is extremely agile. Although they are kept by some fanciers, this breed is generally not suited as a house pet. They are natural hunters, making use of all five senses in order to locate possible prey. They can be quite combative with other dog breeds especially those of the same sex. Though they may be difficult to domesticate, given the proper training they can be tamed. |
