It is related to the Chow Chow, Pomeranian and other dog breeds. After the French Revolution, this breed’s popularity started to wane. Fortunately, in 1920, their popularity was revived thanks to a certain Mrs. Wingfield-Digby who introduced the breed to the United Kingdom which then led to the breed’s arrival to the United States. It was solely bred to be a family pet although in the past, it was sometimes utilized to guard oats. Now, it is not only used as a family pet but also as a companion and guard dog. | | Breed Character Information : | The Keeshond is very friendly. It greets people it knows with a grin which has earned it the name of “Smiling Dutchman”. They are very affectionate and usually get along well with other dog breeds. They are easy to train as long as their owners show respect and fairness towards them. They make excellent family pets since they love to take part in family gatherings and activities and generally get along with anyone. They also make excellent guard dogs since they like to bark and will automatically warn their families of any incoming danger.
