| Breed Overview Information : | The Kai Dog originated in Honshu, an island located in the province of Kai in Japan. It was originally utilized as a hunter of deer and wild boar. It is relatively rare and hard to obtain. It was originally thought of as too primitive too function as a proper family pet. However, this myth has been dispelled since the Kai was proven to be an excellent companion if given the proper training. It was officially recognized in Japan in 1934 and considered a national monument. |
| Breed Character Information : | The Kai Dog is a natural hunter. It is even known to tackle any kind of terrain just to catch its prey. They develop a strong attachment and loyalty to their owners. They serve as excellent guard dogs since they are naturally suspicious of strangers but will not attack unless told to so by its owner or provoked. | Breed Coat Information : | The Kai Dog has a double coat that protects it from harsh weather. Its outer coat is straight and is of medium to long length while its under coat is short and thick. They have a brindled coat which has earned them the name “Tora” or “Tiger”. However, this brindled coat does not usually manifest itself until adulthood.
