If you are into hardy dogs, then the Hovawart may be one of your choices.  It is also described as a “weather-proof dog” as seen in Hovawart Breed Dog Breed information’s.  The Hovawart puppy is self confident as well as versatile.  It is also an independent breed.

Breed Coat Information :

The Hovawart is a breed with a double coat with the outer coat having the following characteristics: long coat hairs, dense texture, slightly wavy coat and is close fitting to its body.  The undercoat on the other hand has a thin and fine texture.  Longer coat hairs are found on the stomach, the legs, the chest, and the tail of the Hovawart Breed.

Breed Temperament Information :

The Hovawart Breed has the loyalty and affectionate qualities that most owners would look for in a pet.  It is a very protective breed and has the tendency to become very attached to one specific member of the family.  The Hovawart mingles well with kids and with small dogs, even non-canine pets or as long as it has been raised together with them.  It is wary of strangers.

Breed Ownership Information :

The Hovawart Breed is one of those extremely independent dog breeds and because it has a mind of its own, it will need an experienced owner.  It is not a dog that will be suitable as a first pet.  It has a great guarding instinct that will only need very little training.

Breed Activity Information :

Hovawarts are not suited to live in an apartment or in a city.  They will live best in the country where they will have enough space to run around and roam.   This breed is a creature that loves having work to do and will become bored if it is not given a task or something to do.  Once bored, it will become destructive.  The Hovawart is good in tracking, hiking, watchdogging, etc.

Breed Care Information :

The Hovawart breed, as said in the Hovawart Breed Dog Breed information’s, needs regular coat brushing in order to prevent matting or tangles in the coat. Bathing should only be done whenever necessary.  The Hovawart is quite a healthy breed but is prone to an under active thyroid as well as hip dysplasia.

Breed Training Information :

Your Hovawart needs to undergo early socialization as well as obedience training.  Take note that the Hovawart Breed will not respond to training techniques that are heavy handed.  Instead, training methods must be fair and firm, with the trainer exhibiting patience and consistency.
