Breed Overview Information :

The Harrier Breed is just like the English Foxhound and can still be considered as part of the family of small dogs.  It is a hunting dog with a muscular body, with great speed and with an excellent sense of smell.  There are various stories about the origins of the Harrier Breed puppy.  One would say that the breed is a mixture of the Tailbot Hound and the Basset Hound.  Another source would say that it is the result of the cross breeding of the English Foxhound with either the Fox Terrier or the Greyhound.

Harriers are said to be obedient and intelligent at the same time but are stubborn at times.  That is why training techniques employed should be firm and consistent as well as fair.  The Harrier is a breed that is good at agility trials, obedience trials, and tracking activities.
