The key is to build your doghouse large enough for your dog to be comfortable, but small enough for its body heat to keep its home warmer in the winter. A good rule of thumb is to make the length of the doghouse 1 ½ times the length of the dog and the width ¾ the length of your dog. The height should be approximately 1 ¼ to 1 ½ the height of your dog. It’s always best when building an extra large dog house to use some dog house plans for large dogs.
