Breed Overview Information :

Being the smallest of the dog breeds, the Chihuahua is named after a state in Northern Mexico named Chihuahua (obviously). These dog breeds are believed to have been descended from ancient royal dogs which were pets of Aztec royals.

Breed Character Information :

This dog breed is very loyal to its owner, yet extremely jealous when it comes to other people or animals who are also close to its owner. Chihuahua characteristics cannot be unified, since each dog born each has a unique characteristic. These dogs also have a long life.

Small dogs such as the Chihuahua are not recommended to be placed around kids. Their heart is just good for one person. Yup. And that’s why they can easily get jealous. Socializing them with other dogs can solve this problem. Chihuahuas also have a tendency to be "ethnocentric”, preferring the companion of other Chihuahuas over other dogs.

Despite being small dogs, Chihuahuas do not seem to be overly concerned about their size and can confront larger animals without fear. This arrogance is not always good though. This behavior often results to physical injury.
Breed Coat Information :

A Chihuahua can either be long-haired or smooth-coat, black, white or spotted, even color brown or blue, or a combination of these colors. Long-haired ones have a rather velvety undercoat – it is technically the smoother one, but the short-haired ones have a “smoother” appearance. Puppies of this dog breed look like fuzzy balls of fur that would grow up to be dogs that do not need constant trimming.

Smooth-coated ones aren’t necessarily smooth: they may be rough or coarse, but can be smooth also when in the right condition
Breed Temperament Information :

Chihuahuas have various personalities. If they are surrounded by an unfamiliar environment, these dogs are easy to adapt since they are very curious explorers. They are known to be very tensioned dogs, and I have no idea what causes that tension.

These highly audacious dogs are also very protective. They need excessive (and I mean excessive) attention, so this is not suitable for extremely busy people. By nature, it is rather gentle and loving and often sweet-tempered, but at a sight of a stranger, they become very suspicious thus making them excellent watchdogs.
Breed Ownership Information :  A Chihuahua puppy should be adopted ideally if they are in an age between 4 to 12 months. Chihuahua puppies should only be bought from certified breeders. Potential owners should research about the type of dog breed that they want first, without buying them immediately. Chihuahua dog breed information can be accessed on the internet such as the puppy information above.
Breed Activity Information :  Whether in apartments or condos or houses, the Chihuahua can live there. It’s not very picky when it comes to where it lives. Indoor activities are ok for this type of dog, since it is small and doesn’t need a lot of space to play around on. They also love tagging along with their owners, having their daily walk around the park or the neighborhood.
Breed Care Information :

Chihuahuas require high maintenance. They need to be regularly checked by the vet, especially regarding their teeth and also because they are very prone to neurological illnesses.

High maintenance, but minimal grooming: The first type of Chihuahua, with smooth coat require occasional brushing, while the one with long coat should be brushed at least 2-3 times a week with a soft brush. Bathe them once a month, use mild dog shampoos, and be careful not to let water enter their ears.

They may not be picky in where they live, but they are picky with what they eat. Owners should not feed them little, nor too much, and the right kind of food. If you want them to live long, don’t make them overweight.
Breed Training Information :  It is difficult to train, and I can feel it even by just writing about it. It requires a LOT of LOVE and PATIENCE and POSITIVE training. The most used training method for this breed is the crate method also called paper training method .It is highly recommend to be socialize as a puppy.
