| Breed Overview Information : | As one of the dog breeds, the Bedlington Terrier is one of those described as a dog with a lion’s heart but with a lamb’s look and appearance. Originally named “Rothbury Terrier”, the Bedlington Terrier is a native of the Rothbury found in the English border. There are others who would say that the Bedlington Terrier is a combination breed of the Otterhound and the Dandie Dinmont Terrier. Firstly exhibited as a separate breed in 1877, the Bedlington Terrier was originally used for rat hunting as well as in small games in either lairs or open grounds. The Bedlington Terrier is a dog used for barking, watching as well as a good apartment dog. |
| Breed Character Information : | The Bedlington Terrier is one of the dog breeds that does well in an apartment if given proper exercise. Although even as small dogs, the Bedlington Terriers may have serious inherited liver problems which is more commonly known as the Copper Storage Disease. On the other hand, the Bedlington Terrier has a height ranging from 16-17 inches for males and 15-16 inches for females. Their weight ranges from 18-23 pounds for both males and females. The Bedlington Terrier is very playful and cheerful and very loving with children and family members. Although this breed needs to be close to cats, they are still able to be trained well to be socially close to them and to the other animals. |
| Breed Coat Information : | As a puppy, the Bedlington Terrier has a unique springy gait. It has a look that is very close to a little sheep or lamb. From crown to nose, the head has no stop. They have a thick double coat with a mixture of soft and harsh hairs which have colors such as blue, liver or sandy. On the other hand, the coat sheds little or no hair at all. It is thinned and clipped near the head. |
