Breed Overview Information :The Beagle was bred for hunting purposes originally. It is one of the small dogs that are scent hounds. It has the tendency to follow anything it smells and eventually ignores everything and anything around it. Obedience training is required and is a must early especially in its puppy age. The Beagle is a cross breed between the harrier and other hound in England. It is good in hunting hare, quail, and pheasant.
Breed Character Information :These kind of small dogs are full of energy and does very well in family environments. With its cute appearance comes a very lively and high energy dog making it very wonderful with children as companions. Proper socialization and interaction is needed, especially when it is still a puppy. Like most dog breeds, the Beagle is active and alert in nature. Even though it has an even temperament, it would not show any signs of aggression or being timid. It can be mischievous and bold at times so proper training is needed for these kinds of dog breeds.

These kinds of small dogs have a hound type coat, which is medium in length that makes its grooming easy. The hair lies close to the body and is hard, which should be kept that way. The Beagle, like most dog breeds, is very energetic and active. These small dogs love long and vigorous walks, as they are mostly outdoor types. Considering that the Beagle is a hunting dog, they should be kept on a leash or in a fenced area with plenty of space. Two long everyday walks are required or recommended for its huge amount of stamina and a somewhat tireless nature.

Breed Care Information :The Beagle needs daily brushing to remove loose or dead hair. A down wipe using a damp towel should be enough for the bathing. In brushing the hair of the beagle, using rubber, wire, or even a hard bristled brush would do great. Cleaning the ears are required in a daily basis for it is prone to ear infections. Nails should also be trimmed on a regular basis. These kinds of small dogs are an average shedder, which can be taken care of with regular brushing.

These small dogs are intelligent and very easy to please making this breed, especially as a puppy, a wonderful pet to have. Since they are energetic and active, they tend to lose interest quickly especially when they smell a new scent and focus on it. Obedience training is required, as early as a puppy. Firm but gentle, and consistency should be used when training these kinds of dog breeds.
