Breed Overview Information :The Basset Hound is a behaved breed in nature making these kind of small dogs a good family house pet. The Basset Hound is very sweet, gentle, and loving to its family and to the people it grew up with. Though this breed does howl and bark a lot, it is a very good alarm dog, but since it is very gentle, it is not recommended as a guard dog.

Unlike most dog breeds, the Basset Hound is rather lazy. It has sensitive long ears making them best for old people’s lives and respectable older children. The Basset Hound unlike most dog breeds, have the tendency to be very stubborn but they are never timid. These small dogs are fun loving, happy go lucky, and gentle dogs that do not show or display signs of aggression.

Breed Coat Information : 

The basset Hound’s coat is always kept short and never long. Its coat, even as a puppy, is hard and dense. Their coat is smooth, which makes it weather resistant like most dog breeds. Its hair should be maintained as straight and firm in texture.

The Basset Hound is very affectionate and considerate to its family. Unlike other small dogs, it has the combination of being quiet and lazy, which is its nature. It is very peaceful and devoted around the people it grew up with. These kind of small dogs love being with children and considerably does well with other dogs and animals. They are most of the time stubborn, but with patience, they can be taught tricks for amusement.

The Basset Hound is best for families with children and old. They do very well with families who are affectionate and respectful. They can be good watch dogs and alarm dogs for families but are not good guard dogs for they are very gentle to people. They are best for old aged dog owners for these kind of small dogs have very sensitive ears which are useful for old people. Families who have pets at home and dogs, as guard dogs are best recommended for these Basset hound dog breeds. Owners who are not patient with training dogs are not recommended for these kind of small dogs for the Basset Hound is very stubborn.

Breed Activity Information : 

The Basset Hound, even as a puppy, eats a lot of food. Giving it the proper and decent exercise is needed for it to maintain a good health. With its lazy nature, taking it to walks on regular basis is required and there should be enough fenced space for it to roam around.  It should be placed in a secure and safe place for its safety from strangers.

Breed Care Information :Brushing and combing with the use of a firm bristle brush is needed to keeps it’s shedding to a minimum as these kinds of dog breeds shed non-stop. Its nails should be trimmed regularly as it might neglect its nails for it is lazy. Cleaning under its folds and cleaning its ears is best done regularly.

These kind of dog breeds are very sensitive and gentle so patience and being gentle is needed with its training. Consistency is also required with this short and stubborn dog. Even as a puppy, the Basset Hound has the tendency to go sniffing everywhere and not minding its owner so techniques are best needed for these kind of small dogs.
