Breed Overview Information :The American Eskimo Dog was believed to have originated in the United States and developed from the German Spitz. When the German Spitz was brought to the United States, its name was changed to American Eskimo Dog probably due to anti-German ideas. Now, the American Eskimo Dog is being recognized as a separate breed. This breed is an excellent guard dog and companion.

American Eskimo Dogs are one of the most intelligent dog breeds. This breed is very affectionate and loyal to their owners. They are also very lively with children. They are highly intelligent and eager to please which make them easy to train. They are natural workers and will do best when given a job to do. Like most dog breeds, they like to take part in family activities. They are quite a noisy breed since they love to bark.
