| Breed Overview Information : | The American English Coonhounds were used to hunt foxes and raccoons. They were bred from breeds coming from Ireland and France which were brought to the United States. Since the original coonhounds could not measure up to the hunting standards of the United States, they were crossed with Bloodhounds in order to produce a breed that had a superior sense of smell. Thus, the American English Coonhound was developed. Now, they are not only used to hunt foxes and raccoons, they are also capable of hunting bears and wild boars. |
