Breed Overview Information :The Airedale Terrier is one of the dog breeds that originated form Airedale in Yorkshire, England. Amongst the Terrier dog breeds, the Airedale Terrier is the largest. It has also been called the Waterside Terrier because it was originally bred to hunt otters in the River Aire. This type of breed is a very pleasant one. It is protective and demands a lot of attention. In 1864, they were first shown in a championship dog show. The patriarch for this breed is known to be CH Master Briar.
Breed Character Information :

Airedale Terriers as a puppy are very spunky, protective and is not recommended for use within the family. Though they are sweet, they have dominance issues which can definitely show if there is no proper training given during the time that they are still small dogs. On the other hand, their size ranges in around 58-61 cm for males and 56-59 cm for females. They weigh around 45-70 pounds.

Breed Coat Information : 

They breed generally has a “broken coat” because of the kind of outer coat and under coat it has. As a puppy, the Airedale Terrier dog breed has an outer coat that is hard and wiry. It is so stiff that it appears very ragged. The undercoat on the other hand is shorter and much softer. They appear as either black or tan. Around the muzzle, a slightly wavy hair is acceptable along with a distinctive beard.

Breed Temperament Information :

As small dogs, the Airedale Terrier dog breeds are very loyal. They are happy-go-lucky type of dogs but can be difficult to handle at times. They are very intelligent breed and so owners for this type should be experienced ones. They love chasing animals. Given proper socialization techniques and training, they will be able to do well with other animals. When the Airedale Terrier is not given proper training, it will become agitated and thus annoy other people and animals as well.

Breed Ownership Information :

Considering the kind of temperament that this dog breed has, experienced owners are the ones which can handle this type very well. For the new ones who are interested in handling this, it is but logical that they have some research and studies in finding out a lot about this type of dog breed.

Breed Activity Information : 

The Airedale Terrier should at least have an average sized yard since they are active type of dogs. Extensive exercise is needed as well for them to give a good training for their health and total body.

Breed Care Information :Because of the kind of coat that they have, Airedales don’t even shed at all.

Their grooming is generally by stripping and an edged knife is used to pull loose hair from their coat and body.

Breed Training Information : 

Just like any other dog breed type, the Airedale Terriers need to have proper obedience training as well as socialization skills in order for them to mix well with other animals and other people within their surroundings.
